Former Senator George McGovern is one of my personal heroes. He wrote an op/ed piece for the Washington Post last weekend which pretty much sums it all up. Go here to read it. I know the Post is a “you must register before you use our site” place, but I was able to access it with this URL from work where I haven’t registered, so maybe it will work for you also. He enumerates the reasons why Bush/Cheney are worse than Nixon and his gang of crooks. One of the most interesting quotes from the article is:
I have not been heavily involved in singing the praises of the Nixon administration. But the case for impeaching Bush and Cheney is far stronger than was the case against Nixon and Vice President Spiro T. Agnew after the 1972 election. The nation would be much more secure and productive under a Nixon presidency than with Bush. Indeed, has any administration in our national history been so damaging as the Bush-Cheney era?
He was the first (and so far, only) candidate to get my money. In 1972 when I was making $65/week, I sent him $25. I still believe the country would have been light-years ahead if he had won that election. Alas….
